The NFL returns this Thursday, September 7, with the 2023 Season Kickoff, where the Detroit Lions will face the Kansas City Chiefs. Watch the game live on ESPN Caribbean.
Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football will be part of the action-packed ESPN Caribbean programming, including coverage of the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl LVIII.
The NFL season kicks off with a matchup between the Detroit Lions vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, this Thursday, September 7. Football fans will be able to watch the 104th season of the NFL through the ESPN Caribbean & ESPN2 Caribbean channels.

What you need to know for the 2023-2024 NFL season
- This is the 104th season of the NFL.
- It will also be the first season without Tom Brady since 1999, after his permanent retirement from the game.
- The Kansas City Chiefs will seek their third title in 5 years.
Significant changes for this season
- After 18 seasons, Aaron Rodgers followed in Brett Favre’s footsteps by leaving the Green Bay Packers to join the New York Jets, along with 2 of his receivers: Cobb and Lazard.
- Derek Carr joined the New Orleans Saints in hopes to revamp his career.
- Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to fill the hole left from Tom Brady’s departure.
- D’Andre Swift will reinforce the Philadelphia Eagles’ running attack after the departure of Miles Sanders.
Draft 2023
- In the 2023 NFL Draft there were 3 QBs chosen in the first four picks, a stark contrast from last year where the first QB wasn’t chosen until the 20th pick.
- This year Bryce Young was the first overall pick chosen by the Carolina Panthers. The last time the team drafted a QB No. 1 overall was Cam Newton in 2011.
- The team with the most selections was the Los Angeles Rams, with 14, although none were made in the first round.
- The Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks had the most selections in the first two rounds, with 4 each.
- Alabama and Georgia had the most players drafted, with 10 players each.
New head coaches
- There are 5 teams with new head coaches this season.
- Highlighted by the return of Sean Payton to the NFL as head coach of the Denver Broncos, after a year off as a TV commentator.
- Also returning is Frank Reich, who was fired from the Indianapolis Colts mid-season in 2022 to join the Carolina Panthers, the team for which he played. The first touchdown pass in Panthers history was thrown by Reich.
- Arizona Cardinals parted ways with Kliff Kingsbury and brought in Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to take over.
- Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen went on to coach the Indianapolis Colts.
- DeMeco Ryans Will make his head coach debut with the Houston Texans.
Diversity and Inclusion in the NFL
- In 2015, Jen Welter became the NFL’s first female trainee coach, working with the Arizona Cardinals’ linebackers in training camps and preseason.
- The following year, Kathryn Smith became the first woman to be signed full-time by an NFL team, joining the Buffalo Bills in quality control.
- Last summer, the NFL already had 15 women in training camp coaching positions, this year the number will grow to 16, a record for any men’s professional sports league in the world.
