Live coverage will begin after the CG Insurance Super50 Cup Final at 8 PM ET.No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound boxer, Saúl Canelo Álvarez (54-1-2 36 KOs), will defend his WBC, WBA world super-middleweight titles against Turkish Avni Yildirim (21-2 12 KOs). Yildirim’s last fight for the WBC 168-pound title ended in a loss against Anthony Dirrell by a technical decision in February 2019.
Canelo smashed his last contender, British Callum Smith, winning by unanimous decision the WBA (Super), The Ring, and WBC super-middleweight titles in San Antonio, Texas, in December 2019. Canelo has revealed that his top 2021 plan is to do what no other boxer has done in the four-belt era: unify the super middleweight division.
The undercard fight presents Mexican flyweight champion, Julio Cesar ‘Rey’ Martinez, in his mandatory defense of his WBC title against the Puerto Rican contender McWilliams Arroyo. Martinez (17-1, 13 KOs) is defending his title for the third time since claiming the belt in December 2019, as Arroyo (20-4, 15 KOs) is trying to win the title for the third time.
